Men’s Sunday Football Team
Our Men’s football team has grown to a squad of around 30 talented players from the community and competes on Sunday’s in the Middlesex Premier League. We have been promoted from the 4th Division right up to the Premier League and have come close to winning the league two seasons in a row. Our mission is to continue to grow, improve and continue to be promoted up through the leagues.
Women’s Football Team
There has been a huge increase in interest in Women’s football in recent years, and we have had no shortage of women wanting to join the Grenfell Athletic Women’s team. With over 25 players in the squad, we are encouraging our women to strive to compete at the highest level, and offering them opportunities to organise GA events and do internships to further their career opportunities.
Dream Carriers
We invited many young people from the ages of 8 to 12, to write down their dreams of what they wanted to be one day. We took these designs, dreams and drawings and put them on to our shirt. This means, every week, our men’s and women’s teams go out and compete with the dreams of the young in our community on their backs. You can see a video of the Dream Carriers Here
Soho House Mentor Scheme
Soho House partnered with Grenfell Athletic to offer an internship scheme in partnership with the Creative Mentor Network. We were asked to identify 8 young adults in our community who were interested in entering the Creative Industry and paired them with an industry leader for 10 weekly sessions.
Men’s Saturday Team
Paul Menacer and Joseph John were both residents of Grenfell Tower, and have been members of the team since it was founded in 2017. Now 6 years later, they have started their own team called Grenfell Athletic South West, allowing us to support even more young people from a wider area.
Junior Academy
Along the centre of football in W11, and at the foot of the tower, the Westway Academy and Westway football pitch is where a lot of the members of our teams grew up playing. We now train twice a week at Westway, and have partnered with them to sponsor their Juniors Academy with kits, and would like to offer opportunities for their development in future.
Mercedes-Benz Partnership
Not only did Grenfell Athletic receive two brand new Electric Vans to help transport players of the Men’s and Women’s teams to and from games, but they asked Stephen Bartlett to come down and deliver them. They have also offered internships at their company headquarters, and Stephen has also mentored some of our young aspiring entrepreneurs in the teams. You can see a video of the launch HERE
Cadbury FC
Cadbury have supported us with many initiatives over the years, including our very own Grenfell Athletic Diary Milk bars. But the partnership has truly come into it’s own with the launch of the Common Ground project. 14 teams in the Cadbury FC network, all professional offered equipment, dugouts, goalposts and their experienced Groundsman to help uplift and elevate our Home Ground at Kings House.
